Why Whitewater...again?

Twenty years ago, I came to Whitewater to teach English and history at the high school. Eight years later, my path would take me away from here to other opportunities and family responsibilities. Now, after some twists and turns, I count it a blessing that I've been led back to this district and this community to serve as the district's Library Media Specialist.

I've lived and worked in a few other places, and Whitewater still tops them all. The way this district focuses on student growth and learning, the supportive and culture-rich community, and the amazing faculty in each building are the characteristics that made my decision to return here an easy one.

In my role as library media specialist, I oversee each library's staff, programs, and collections. I will have the opportunity to provide rich and up-to-date resources to students, as well as making sure our students are savvy finders and users of information of all kinds. As the Technology Integrator (my other role), I am priveged to work with faculty and students to coach and support them in their use of technology to improve student learning.

When I'm not working in these roles, I am a photographer and freelance writer, a backpacker and kayaker, a home remodeler, and a gadget geek. And as often as I can, I try to unplug, get outside, and hang out with my boys (9 and 13) and my wife.

Oh, and I've been known to read a book occasionally. (You should try it. It's pretty amazing.)
