Welcome to the profile page of Mr. Stewart, Social Studies teacher at Whitewater High School
This will be my 20th year as a teacher in this district and I currently teach Global Connections, American Government, AP Human Geography, and AP US Government & Politics.
I prefer to call myself a social studies teacher rather than a history or geography teacher, as I think of social sciences as a larger discipline, beyond just history. Merriam-Webster Dictionary defines social studies as “a part of a school or college curriculum concerned with the study of social relationships and the functioning of society and usually made up of courses in history, government, economics, civics, psychology, sociology, and geography.” It is through social studies that we as people learn to understand each other.
In my class, we use Google Classroom. Only students and faculty within the Whitewater Unified School District have Google Apps for Education accounts, therefore you will not be able to directly access your child’s Google Classroom. However, please know that all of my assignments are available via that portal. Any handouts or resources I use in class are available 24/7 there, and they know this. There is also a free Google Classroom App that can be downloaded on your student’s phone to access Google Classroom as well.
Whitewater is an amazing community filled with outstanding students, teachers, administrators, and support staff. You may see me at an athletic event, musical or band concert. It is always a goal of mine to attend at least one event of a student in my classroom. I am excited about the new school year and look forward to meeting you!
