Peer Mentor
The Peer Mentor program started in the 2005 school year based on the idea that younger students respond more enthusiastically to older students than they often do to adults.
Peer Mentors are referred by teachers and other school personnel based on their ability to conncect with others and to be a postive role model. Potential peer mentors are interviewed by Mary Geraghty, the district social worker and coordinator of the program.
After selection, peer mentors participate in ongoing training to help them work with younger students. They learn the importance of being dependable and trustworthy and they also learn skills to help them work with students individually and in groups.
Peer mentors are currently working throughout our district with students ranging from kindergarten through 9th grade.
