This year, four Whitewater High School Seniors received the Gateway Promise! The Gateway Promise is a monetary award given to graduating seniors who plan to attend Gateway Technical College the Fall after their senior year. There are several requirements students need to meet in order to be awarded the Gateway Promise. These four students met all of the requirements and will attend Gateway TUITION-FREE starting in Fall 2018; funding will be available to each of these students for six semesters - up to $10,500. Pictured left to right are Alexa Acevedo Cuevas- Nursing, Sara Canche Lopez- Veterinary Technician, Steven Witt- Firefighter Technician, Alejandro Valadez- Computer Numerical Control Programmer, and Olivia Navarro - Gateway New Student Specialist. "Most of these students are first generation college students, they will be the first ones in their family to attend college; attending college will positively impact their life, their family, and the community," stated Navarro. She continued, "Alejandro Valadez said that he was going to take a year off from school to work and save money for college; now with the Gateway Promise he does not have to take a year off."
